Goddamn Code… *sniff*

Spent the entire day in bed thanks to a stupid cold. It seems to be severe. Hope I’m ok by NYE.

Watched a whole lotta movies and anime. Here’s a super mini review:

1. Texhnolyze: Absolute mind fuck of an anime series. Very dark, very weird, very hard to grasp onto the plot until the last few episodes, really fucked up ending (ala Evangelion). Beautiful artwork and animation though. Reminded me a LOT of Ghost in The Shell : Innocence. 3.5/5 stars

2. Slumdog Millionaire: Fucking brilliant music from Rahman. Awesome cinematography. Very random and ‘too liberal’ usage of English by slum kids. Plot was too over-the-top for me. One thing I fail to understand is that directors take the whole concept of “India being a magical place where anything can happen” too liberally and then put whatever the fuck they want into the plot thinking that they can get away with it. Don’t get me wrong…it works…for novels like Midnight’s Children it works perfectly. But for Slumdog Millionaire, it fell flat on its face at many instances. But anyway…the movie had many memorable and beautiful moments…so I must give due credit for that. 3/5 stars

3. Wonderful Days: Beautiful Korean anime movie blending some really gorgeous 3D visuals with equally gorgeous animesque 2D animation. However, as I had expected, the movie suffered from weak-plot syndrome. Full of clichés and a forgettable storyline, the saving grace for this film might’ve been the animation alone. 2.5/5 stars

4. Oye Lucky,Lucky Oye: And the award for most misleading name for a movie that’s actually good goes to…Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye!! Much like Khosla ka Ghosla, OLLO is a superb and hilarious movie. Although there’re many serious and somewhat dark moments, OLLO does not fail to make you laugh in many of its scenes. What’s even better is the music!! Now I’m a strong disapprover of Indian rap…but OLLO has some friggin amazing Punjabi/Hindi rap in its super upbeat tracks. The music really carries this film forward effortlessly. Couple that with some decent acting and genuinely funny comedy and you have the recipe for a great film. What was missing though was a stronger plot. 4/5 stars

Just listen to brilliance of the song Superchor from OLLO:

So there you go. My Saturday in bed, in a nutshell.

Slum Dog 3?Eh..wi ld give t a 4.!The language transition is shown gradually but its excusable considering it a film made for international audience who wouldnt bother reading subtitles for entire movie..Other then that i didnt find it to be anything goes…as in the events were all pretty plausible!

The sudden and perfect English definitely bothered me :P . Some more scenes for example…the blind kid in the tunnel (too corny for my liking),the car dismantling with a line about Michael Schumacher, Saleem’s “character swings” which were a bit irritating and other small things. Well…to each his own. This movie is certainly likeable…so maybe my expectations were too high and somewhat demanding perfection.

For me the movie was PERFECT until the point the kid starts speaking English in front of the Taj Mahal :P .
