Back to the basics

Many many years ago, in a land far far away, there was once released a movie called Dil Chahta Hai, which would forever change my views on hair. No longer would haircuts be restricted to “slope” and “katora” cuts…but hair itself would become a fashion statement…a symbol of freedom…and identity.
The year DCH was released,I got myself the Aamir Khan cut. It became quite a hit among my friends and even earned me the name Aamir Khan bhaiyya among my juniors. Don’t believe me? Well, I don’t fucking care really .
And after many years and many hairy transitions…its back to the basics...
Rahman’s Oscars

The world has finally heard Rahman. One of the most talented composers to ever come out of India, A.R. Rahman, won 2 Oscars yesterday which really made my day.
He won best music and best song for Slumdog Millionaire…one of the most overrated and overhyped movies I’ve seen in recent times. Rahman’s music in the movie is by no means his best. In fact, in my opinion, the song Jai Ho (that won him an Oscar) pretty much sucks.
But all that doesn’t matter.
Rahman finally won an award that is proportional to his talent. And unless people are getting Nobel prizes for music these days, an Oscar...

Yes…I finally got to use that newly learnt term in a conversation!
Anyway…its been a long time since I’ve come back home so early in the morning. Last time was NYE I think. And Shanty, the reason why I’m blogging so soon is because its fresh in my head. Just to clarify .
Fun night actually. Sold my 1 GB of RAM and spent the money on drinks at Clarke Quay. Met up with Prachi, Pari, Ankur, Alex, Shanty and Avi. Finally got to see drunk Prachi! And is she violent or what?! Alex looks like a…ahem…”flower”, compared to her!
She was slapping people left, right and center (Ankur, Shanty...

Just so fucking tired. Project going full swing. Sleeping 6 hours a day. Not good. Watching Entourage. That’s good. Really good. Just so fucking tired. Gonna sleep now. Fuck everything. Haha. Nah. Jus kidding. But I am fucking tired. Peace out. Or go fuck yourself. If I hate you. Vice versa too. Not the fucking part though. Or whatever. Who gives a flying fuck anyway.

Mind Game

Mind Game is a super cool Jap anime movie that’s unlike any movie you’ve ever seen before. Its like a total fucking acid trip. Very very trippy but with an awesome (and somewhat confusing) storyline.
I really liked the style of anime too. It was a combination of many things, including live action (ala A Scanner Darkly), which made it really cool . And it certainly had a powerful message and a really powerful and fucking climatic ending!
The ending alone is worth watching the whole movie for! In recent times, I really don’t remember watching a movie which had THIS good an ending! MIND BLAASTING....
Allah Ke Bande

Kailash Kher
Now, I’m not a religious guy or Muslim, but the song Allah Ke Bande by Kailash Kher (from the movie Waisa Bhi Hota Hai) really brought a smile to my face this morning while I was on my way to work.
The title of the song means “a person of God” or rather a follower of God I think. Its a beautiful Sufi song, and I’d really never paid much attention to the lyrics before. But somehow I just ended up playing this song over and over again on my iPod and was amazed at the subtle beauty of the song which is actually about a Parinda, or a bird.
I interpreted the song in my own way,...
DEV D: A pseudo review
Posted by The big poobah in Movies, Music (Others) on February 7, 2009 | 1 Comment
Went to watch Dev D with Pari, Praneeth, Agas and Shanty yesterday. Now this is a movie I’ve been looking forward to ever since Monu first showed me its trailer a few months back.
I’ve been listening to its songs on my iPod constantly, waiting and anticipating to watch it first day last show (am a working person now yaar…tragedy…tragedieee).
Which I did.
I knew it was either gonna be a movie that would blow my mind away to a different dimension, or a movie that would fall flat on its face. Director Anurag Kashyap’s last film (that I watched) was No Smoking….which kind of left...
SUPER CNY WEEKE…bleah…it’s been two weeks since then already…

…and I’m just too lazy. Here’s Agastya’s blog post on the 4th and final day of my CNY holiday:

In a nut shell, Pari, Praneeth and I went to Agastya’s place to have dinner. Ankur and Prachi had a small couple’s tiff, which left me, Agastya, Pari and Praneeth waiting for him at the bus stop. After some serious male bonding at the bus stop we went to Mt. Pleasant cemetery, which as it turned out was a bit too scary, especially considering the fact that we were going to a fucked up place for a second night in...
SUPER CNY WEEKEND: PART III (BUKIT BROWN CEMETERY)
Posted by The big poobah in Friends, Vellapanti on February 1, 2009 | No Comments
On Sunday Agas, Shanty, Pari and I decided that there was a certain level of excitement missing from our lives, so we should do something about it.
Hence we decided to venture into the unknown depths of The Bukit Brown Cemetery (insert cool lightning effects here)!!! This great idea sprung from the minds of Pauline, one of my LEAP buddies when I told her that I was planning to go to the Chua Chu Kang cemetery. She told me that Chua Chu Kang is like a walk in the park compared to Bukit Brown. And how right she was!!
We all decided to put ourselves in the right frame of mind first by watching...
