Weddings and Night Outs

I attended my first wedding in Singapore yesterday. James, one of my LEAP mates got married to his secondary school sweetheart at the M Hotel. Although I was rather quieter than usual, I was secretly enjoying myself. Watching two people who’ve been together for 11 years and getting married finally makes you feel a little warm and mushy inside ;) .

I guess they’re very lucky to have found each other when they were so young. James gave a speech in Mandarin later on and even though I couldn’t understand a word of it, it was undoubtedly very emotional.

I also unexpectedly ran into one of my NTU friends over there! Was a rather nice surprise to see him :) .

After the wedding (and downing a lot of red wine :P ), a few of my LEAP mates decided to go drink some more. Naturally I would never say no to night outs or drinking, hehe.

We first hit a very very seedy joint, which as my LEAP buddies described was a “dirty pub” with dancing girls and stuff (I forgot the Hokkien term for it). Unfortunately we went in very close to closing time, so we couldn’t hang there for long. But it was real fun for the 1 hour that we stayed there. Boy do Singaporeans know drinking games! I learned two new dice games within 10 minutes!!

Dice Games!

Dice Games are fun!

Let me digress here for a bit. There’s a distinct difference in the kind of fun I have when I go out drinking with my LEAP buddies (especially when Alcas or Sophie are with me) and with my Indian friends. With my normal group, we go with the sole aim of getting hammered and then having fun as a result of getting drunk and doing stupid things. With my LEAP friends, we go drinking with the aim of having fun, regardless of whether we get drunk or not. Its a lot of fun in both cases, but somehow I prefer the having fun part first :P . So, mental note: I must try and bring over the drinking games culture to my usual group.

Anyway…so I learnt two new awesome drinking dice games at the first place. We also shot some pool and I was undefeated (woohoo)!

After “dingy place” closed down, we headed to Clarke Quay. I think we must’ve gone to 5 pubs before we settled down at Zirca. We danced, I wobbled and vibrated awkwardly as I always do on the dance floor. 70% of our time at Zirca was spent smoking outside. Got a bit boring after a while…so we went and sat down near the Singapore river and chatted till 6 am or something.

I must’ve smoked half a pack through the night. Bad Jojo…very bad boy. I’ll be sucking on honey tea over the rest of the long weekend me thinks.
